I opened ViVA on January 17, 1997. I had just been transferred to Miami from San Antonio to run the CBS TeleNoticias Latin American and U.S. Hispanic account for a local Hispanic agency. I was fired 6 weeks later, at no fault of my own - seriously - because they didn't want the "liability" of a Miami office. (Ouch!) They also decided to resign the CBS account immediately. And scared to death as I was, I decided to ask for the business myself – and got it! And that's how ViVA got its start. No cash, just a credit card with a $500 limit and with that card, I bought a 2-line phone from Target and borrowed a fax machine from my next door neighbor. With one employee and a "The Secret" type belief in ourselves, we got started.
And ever since then we've been energized by the business of helping our clients grow their business and the responsibility of providing them with solid, no B.S. Hispanic, Latin America and Multicultural Marketing advice.
If I were to tell you that ViVA Partnership was now a full service, multicultural marketing, media and research firm headquartered in Miami, Florida, well, yes, that would be an accurate description of who we are now, but not the whole story. In fact, it makes us sound much like everyone else, which we're not. It doesn't quite convey who we are and the passion we feel – nor the absolute commitment we have to providing our clients with the solutions they need to build and grow their business. Not long ago one of our Fortune 500 clients made a small change to their retail merchandising strategy based on the Shopper Marketing platform ViVA developed for them and their sales increased by 20% year over year! That was a champagne moment for our team! But keep reading, there's more!
